THE UNSOUND PRO 5 presented by LOST took place Sept. 23 to 24th. at Lincoln Blvd in Long Beach NY. In detoriating surf, Kyle Garson won the $5000 first prize. Eric Taylor placed 2nd $1500, Chris Ward 3rd $1000, and Dean Randazzo 4th $800. After the 30 minute final, no one was quite sure who had won. Dean had the strongest two moves, but fell after each one. Garson definitely caught the biggest and longest two waves of the heat. Eric Taylor started off with a strong first wave then seemingly disappeared the rest of the heat. Chris Ward caught some decent waves and surfed the most polished. Less than 1.5 points separated 1st through 4th on all the judges sheets. Day one had head high to overhead surf. Long Beach has probably never seen this good of surfing since Curren came through 10 years ago. Out in the lineup on both sides of the contest and in the contest were Kekoa Bacalso, Chris Ward, Dean Randazzo, Fred Pattachia, TJ Barron, Ian Walsh, Geoff Brack, Ryan Carlson, Ted Navarro, Justin Matteson, Matt Keenan, Jai Boyce, Frank Walsh, Andrew Gessler, Jason Reagan, Danny Melhado, Eric Taylor, Flip Bellinzoni, Mike Antonelli, Marc Belmonte and about 10 others.
